Two Hikes at DuPont State Forest

During our 2013 Asheville trip, we took two hikes in DuPont:

1. Our first hike was a quick loop, a little over four miles.

  • Lake Imaging trail head
  • Lake Imaging Road
  • Hilltop Trail
  • Grassy Creek Falls Trail
  • Lake Imaging Road
  • Buck Forest Road
  • Jim Branch Trail

2. Our second hike was a fairly long out-and-backer, around ten miles with lots of rigorous ascents and descents:

  • Lake Imaging trail head
  • Ridgeline Trail (This is a nice, well-balanced trail that covers a fair amount of ground in one direction)
  • Hickory Mountain Loop
  • Hickory Mountain Road
  • Boundary Trail
  • Guion Trail
  • Sky Valley Rd.
  • Old CCC Rd.
  • Rocky Ridge Trail
  • Stone Mountain Trail (very steep and unrelenting)
  • We returned much the same route, except we took Rifle Trail instead of Guion to get to Hickory Mountain Road. As soon as we got to Rifle Trail, we were drenched by heavy rain which nearly disinegrated the map in my pocket.
